A lot of people don’t understand hypnosis, or they might think it’s “fake” if they’ve seen a comedy stage hypnotism show, or they might even be a little afraid of it, if they’ve heard some of the myths circulating about what it is or what it does.

The beautiful thing about hypnosis is that it’s all natural – everyone is hypnotized several times a day, every day, they just don’t realize that’s what it is.

Hypnosis is just like the first 5 minutes of going to sleep at night. Think about that time, when you’re just laying there, your eyes are closed and you’re so relaxed – you’re not quite asleep yet, and you know you could get up if you wanted to, but it feels so good to just relax and drift and then start to dream and float…

That’s simply a state of hypnosis – the state of mind in between being fully alert and fully asleep. It’s like daydreaming – and it’s the state where you are most creative and imaginative, too!

Have you ever been driving down the highway, and maybe you’re talking on your cell phone, and you’re all engrossed in your conversation, and all of a sudden you look up and there’s your exit, and you wonder, Gee, how did I get this far? We call this “Highway Hypnosis” – for a reason.

What happened was, your subconscious mind, where all your rules, regulations and automatic behaviors are stored, was driving your car, because it knows how to do that safely and efficiently, while your conscious mind was focused intently on your phone conversation.

When you enter a state of hypnosis, you simply give your conscious mind a rest (relaxation), while your subconscious is addressed.

This is why hypnosis is so effective for changing and even eliminating bad habits that you want to quit (such as smoking, nail-biting, automatic destructive responses to distressing emotions, etc) and for improving specific skills, (such as focusing, concentration, control, stress management), because the process allows you to go straight to the subconscious mind and essentially reprogram it to think differently (more positively and effectively) about certain situations or stimulus.

And, one of the really cool things about it is that someone who is hypnotized will never do anything they don’t want to do – you are always still in complete control. You can still hear and see what’s going on around you, and you can still make decisions based on your core beliefs and values – those are almost impossible to change, even with hypnotic suggestion.

Yes, even those people up on stage at a comedy hypnosis show, squawking like chickens and dancing around having fun, are in complete control and only do what they want to do! You can see this truth evidenced at a “bad show” where maybe one or two of the participants do not respond as instructed – and that is because they simply do not want to do what the hypnotist has asked of them.

Therefore, hypnosis is ‘morally safe’ – you never have to fear ‘mind control’ or anything like that when under hypnosis, because trust us, if it were really possible to control other people with hypnosis, the CIA, KGB and other such entities would have run with it years ago!

So, if you have questions about how you can use hypnosis, medical meditation or NLP and life coaching skills to change your life in positive ways – or to learn hypnotherapy with the idea to help others change their life – control pain, quit smoking, lose weight, improve sex life, enhance golf game, increase memory recall in test-taking situations, control fears of flying and so forth – feel free to browse this site or call our office at (800) 390-9536.

You can learn to practice self-hypnosis, and even take a course to become certified to help others experience the powerful benefits of hypnosis.

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), is a proven method of strategic intervention with both medical and psychiatric clients, based on principles that have been effectively used for thousands of years. Recent clinical research indicates MBSR improves outcomes in cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical-behavioral therapy (DBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and can be integrated into a variety of other treatment approaches.
